Is it just me overdramatising or are the sexy skinny jeans times officially over? Does it mean an end of an era? Well, might be but the need for denim is still rising; only the silhouettes have shipped from tight to loose, from straight to trapeze. Luxe denim fast becomes as ubiquitous with the Spring/Summer catwalks as does with Autumn/Winter; only the fit, length, cuts and textures change. This functional material has tended to fade into the background, however this season denim has come back into play in new manifestations – in new styles. As an increasing number of editorials embrace tomboy and androgynous looks and a new wave of creative workwear, the trend to use denim for every occasion has become evident, but shall we change our denim supply each season according to the catwalk in-s? It has always been taking the supporting role in a stylish ensemble thanks to Levi’s or Acne Studios and as we all know, trends and fads come and go so don’t throw away your beloved skinnies but let’s go with the flow and dare to seek for your forgotten vintage pieces and even to wash and handiwork them to create pieces with a unique character. We know the ever-changing, rapidly expanding world of denim can stump even the most dedicated shopper, so we’ve highlighted the coolest new in-s, in hopes of making your life and shopping trip a little easier:
Trapeze is back: Just like the 90’s and 40’s, the 1970s are back, baby, and it feels cooler than ever. For Spring 2014, designers referenced the Disco Decade in a modern way, yet brought back the flared jeans to the shelves.
Boyfriends are the new skinnies: boyfriend jeans continue to be a must-have style for all body shapes. Wear your boyfriend jeans on the weekend for an off duty look or for a stylish dinner out with your girls – matched with pumps and soft silks.
Thrashed denims are hot: it’s such a love or hate thing, I know, but distressed denim is hotter than ever right now. What proves it better than the street style pictures are full of rips, shredded denim and love-worn details from all over the fashion weeks?
Dungarees are ain’t no childish: ever since I purchased my perfect dungarees from Topshop last summer I could not wait winter to be over. We suggest you to work that utility laid-back look – it might feel extreme but you only live once!
More patchworks please: apparently patchwork is one of my favourite denim trends this season as it comes in a multitude of different styles. Patchwork denim took on a 40′s style and makes us be a part of a whole denim revolution this spring.
Surely, the 90s favourite denim on denim is sticking around this season. If you’re not brave enough for this trend then opt for some trapeze denim jeans or simple loose-fit ones from your boyfriend. Which one is your favourite denim trend currently? Are you planning a proper wardrobe change?
