How to Make a Basic Look Outstanding

A lot of times when I plan an outfit I very consciously have to resist to pull my jeans-white-t-shirt basic look out for the first place. I am just this comfortable kind of girl, who likes to take it easy and not overdo. However I also like to look good more interesting than average, so here comes the thing: how do you achieve both? What I have learned form style bloggers on Instagram is, that being comfortably stylish needs sometimes only a little twist.

Mix and match casual with fancy

Greatness lies in simplicity and Kristjaana knows it: a monochrome look spiced up with a touch of blue. Everything in the set is on point. The striped top with extra long, flared jeans are part of a fashion forward closet, just as the flat pointy toes. And then comes a dreamy fancy bag in blue to make us inspired to combine the basics of our wardrobes smartly. Plus I love the sunnies, Prada, aren’t they?

Play with proportions

This look couldn’t be more simple, still effortlessly cool. The jeans are cropped and unfinished on the bottom, the shirt is more oversized than an oversized one (I am frequently using my husband’s 😉 ), hanging here, unbuttoned there, looks like Park A  Ryeon was very much in a hurry to dress. The easiness is that makes this denim on denim look genius. Heels and a bag across your shoulders and you are good to go.

Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise

Blue jeans and white shirt, this is our starting point. Adding a double breasted jacket, ultra-feminine scarf tied pretty, super high heels and a box clutch makes these basic pieces look super luxurious. Plus a well chosen necklace, sunnies and red lips are cherry on the top. So effortless, so beautifully done, so chic. This is how Carelia is rocking it.

Add an eye-catcher piece

Fur (faux) is one of the best eye-catcher pieces for winter. Not only pretty but warm as well, I totally enjoy to wear a thin top with a voluminous cover up above it. Maja‘s styling reminds me to Carrie Bradshaw, when she was jumping out of bed at New Year’s Eve to visit Miranda in Brooklyn (remember?). She just was wearing her sleepwear when after a sudden decision (not to sleep into the new year) she didn’t do much else than put a huge fur coat on plus a sequinned hat and tadaa, the New Year’s Eve mood was right on. So simple is that. Or is it? 😉
