It is September, which means a lot is going on in the fashion industry. Beside of the Fashion Weeks (the first week kicks off on Thursday in New York) the shops are already filled with the latest autumn/winter collections and it feels refreshing to take a dip into the styles of the new season. Come along with me and check out the five most important trends of autumn/winter 2015.
1. Bold prints
The style of the 70’s is here to stay. After all the flared affairs and suede loves, now bold prints are taking over our hearts. I prefer to have bold prints on dresses, and keeping everything else toned down.
An old love of mine. I have a few years old velvet jacket and I am so glad that I have kept it after nobody wanted to wear velvet anymore. This fabric was/is not always very popular, but now it is the perfect time to pull it on again. Velvet pants, jackets, dresses or even velvet shoes are available and are a great way to keep it retro.
Actually there is nothing more on trend than a perfectly tailored velvet suit. But any “oldies”, like tweed jackets or “newbies” like asymmetric cuts and sharp lines are equally perfect to covet this season. And the best thing is that anything tailored is the ultimate way to a “desk to dinner” look.
4. (Faux) Fur
One of my favourite topic, as you already could read about it in my early autumn/winter trend report. I adore the beauty of real fur but mostly on the original owner (hello everybunny). In the last few years somehow I became an FFF (faux fur fan) and stopped purchasing real fur. Faux furs are really pretty today, better and better quality, so I am glad that I do not need to think about who and why suffered for my fashion fun.
5. Capes and ponchos
Blanket style ponchos are key pieces of the season, and Burberry (runway image above) was among the first ones to show us the most beautiful coverups last winter. Either geometric intarsia or folklore elements, ponchos are not only pretty but very useful. Especially the in-between time, when it is not cold enough for down jackets but not warm enough without coverups. A stylish cape or a cool poncho is the answer for fall’s funny mood (in regards of the weather) – and capes work over winter jackets as well!
